Why Drogba will remain at Chealsea

first_imgDidier Drogba had been strongly tipped to quit Chelsea last season after featuring infrequently under Luiz Felipe Scolari. The Cote d’Ivoire international rediscovered his form under Guus Hiddink, but speculation concerning his exit intensified after he verbally abused referee Tom Henning Ovrebo following his side’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League. But he penned a three-year deal with Chelsea last week and he has now explained his reasons in an interview with Goal.com.“I tranquilly spoke with the club and the new coach [Carlo Ancelotti] and I believe my place is here,” he said.“Instead of trying an adventure in another club, I decided to stay at Chelsea. This decision was well thought over and I believe it is the best for all parties.”The former Marseille frontman revealed he received “other offers” through his agent from “foreign clubs”, insisting that Chelsea “were always my first option”. Regarding his new boss, Drogba qualified Ancelotti as “a great coach, with an important resume.“I spoke with him and he clearly said what he wanted from me. I think I can do it and I accept the challenge of fighting for all I achieved during years with Jose Mourinho on the bench of Chelsea.”Credit: Luís Mira, Goal.comlast_img
