GET THE BEST OF THE JAPAN TIMEScenter_img The Japan Wrestling Federation will file a petition with FIlA, world wrestling’s governing body, asking that Chiharu Icho be allowed to compete at this fall’s world championships, JWF chief Tomiaki Fukuda said Tuesday.Icho was scheduled to wrestle at the Asian Championships in Kyrgyzstan last week but withdrew after she hurt her lower back. The Athens Olympic women’s 48-kg silver medalist hoped that by weighing in her participation in the tournament would be recognized, but she was disqualified after coming in over 48 kg. When that happened, Fukuda, who is also vice president of FILA, said it is possible that FILA may not allow Icho to appear at the world championships.last_img
