first_imgPatrice Evra: Players must want to bleed for Man Utdby Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the lovePatrice Evra says Manchester United players must want to “bleed” for the club. The Red Devils are undergoing a transition period with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer becoming the fourth manager since Evra left the club in 2014. The Frenchman is happy with Solskjaer’s appointment and now wants to see the players buy into the club’s philosophy.”We’ve had too many managers, David Moyes, [Louis] van Gaal, [Jose] Mourinho. I just think for the players it’s difficult,” Evra told Sky Sports.”One manager wants to play one way, another manager wants to play another way, you need to know the value of the club and Manchester United.”That’s why I think Ole is a good appointment for the club. He knows the philosophy of the club.”It’s difficult when you come to Manchester United from the outside, people don’t accept you straight away. You need to bleed for this club before people accept you.”We are a big club. We want to win trophies. We don’t want to spend more than 10 years without winning the league again. It’s not easy but the fans have to believe – it’s a process.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Photo: Someone Sprayed #BringBackBruce On Tennessee’s Famous Rock

first_imgTennessee rock spray painted with "Bring Back Bruce."The Rock is one of the major landmarks at the University of Tennessee. According to the UT Athletics website, for decades, students have painted the rock with messages ranging from “birth announcements to memorials, break-up messages to marriage proposals, protests of war to messages of peace, celebration of Vol victories to expressions of, shall we say, disappointment.”Apparently , at least one Tennessee student decided to use The Rock as a personal billboard to advocate the return of former men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl. Pearl enjoyed a successful six-year tenure in Knoxville from 2006-11, before being fired for numerous NCAA infractions. He is currently the head coach of Auburn University. The Vols are in the market for a new head coach after Donnie Tyndall was fired this week for…NCAA violations. Our amateur artist feels Pearl’s track record (at least the positive parts of it) make him the perfect replacement for Tyndall.#BringBackBruce on the rock @coachbrucepearl #VFL pic.twitter.com/QhYzgObwxb— Brandon Carpenter (@bcarp49) March 28, 2015last_img read more

Twitter CEO defends decision not to ban Alex Jones Infowars

first_imgLONDON – Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey defended his company’s decision not to ban right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his “Infowars” show, as many other social media platforms have done, saying he did not break any rules.Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify took down over the past week material published by Jones, reflecting more aggressive enforcement of their hate speech policies after rising online backlash and raising pressure on Twitter to do the same.Jones’ Facebook account has also been suspended for 30 days but he still has a “verified” Twitter account. A separate Twitter account for “Infowars” is also still running.“We didn’t suspend Alex Jones or Infowars yesterday,” Dorsey said in a series of tweets late Tuesday . “We know that’s hard for many but the reason is simple: he hasn’t violated our rules. We’ll enforce if he does.”Dorsey said Twitter did not want to take “one-off actions to make us feel good in the short term, and adding fuel to new conspiracy theories.”He said he wanted the company to avoid succumbing to outside pressure but instead impartially enforce straightforward principles “regardless of political viewpoints.” He also linked to a blog post Tuesday by the company’s vice-president for trust and safety, Del Harvey, outlining the company’s policies.“Twitter is reflective of real conversations happening in the world and that sometimes includes perspectives that may be offensive, controversial, and/or bigoted,” she said. “While we welcome everyone to express themselves on our service, we prohibit targeted behaviour that harasses, threatens, or uses fear to silence the voices of others.”Jones, who has 858,000 followers on Twitter, has built up his profile while promulgating conspiracy theories, including the claim that the 9-11 terror attacks were carried out by the government. He is perhaps most notorious for claiming that the 2012 Sandy Hook mass school shooting, which left 26 children and adults dead, was a hoax and that the surviving relatives are paid actors. Family members of some of the victims are suing Jones for defamation.Dorsey said that it’s up to journalists to “document, validate, and refute” rumours and sensationalized issues spread by accounts like Jones’s so “people can form their own opinions.”Twitter is taking other steps besides account deletions to combat misuse in its battle to rein in hate and abuse even as it tries to stay true to its roots as a bastion of free expression. Dorsey acknowledged last year that the company hasn’t done enough to curb such abuse and protect users.Jones says his shows, which are broadcast on radio and online platforms and had been available on YouTube, reached at least 70 million people a week. It’s unclear how big his audience is now after the latest bans.last_img read more

5 howlers that put spotlight on umpires in IPL 2019

first_imgNew Delhi: One of the raging debates of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the deteriorating standard of umpiring. Throughout the 12th edition of the IPL, fans witnessed many incidents where questions were raised about the umpires’ efficiency. IANS takes a look at the glaring umpiring mistakes that had people saying pull up the umpires in the cash-rich league: ‘Wide-ball’ not called (MI vs CSK final): Kieron Pollard was fined 25 per cent of his match fee after he showed dissent at the umpire’s decision in the final of the IPL 2019 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Also Read – We will push hard for Kabaddi”s inclusion in 2024 Olympics: Rijiju Pollard was visibly unhappy with a decision made by umpire Nitin Menon in the final over of Mumbai’s innings at the summit clash on Sunday which MI won by one run to clinch their fourth IPL trophy. Pollard was irked with the umpire’s decision to not adjudge a delivery by Dwayne Bravo as wide. Mocking the decision, the West Indian all-rounder went on to take strike well away from the stumps and near the ‘wide-line’ before pulling away as Bravo ran in. Also Read – Djokovic to debut against Shapovalov at Shanghai Masters Malinga escapes after delivering no-ball (RCB vs MI group game): One of the most glaring mistakes by an umpire was made in RCB’s clash against MI at home. RCB needed seven runs off the last ball but Lasith Malinga conceded just one to win the contest for his side. However, after the match was over, cameras revealed Malinga had overstepped, which was not spotted by umpire Sundaram Ravi. “We are playing at the IPL level and not playing club cricket. The umpires should have their eyes open. That is a ridiculous call at the last ball,” Virat Kohli had said after the match. “If it is a game of margins, I don’t know what is happening. They should have been more sharp and careful out there.” Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma had also said such mistakes were “not good for the game”. Umesh called despite not crossing bowling crease (RCB vs SRH group game): RCB was at the receiving end of yet another umpiring mistake in their final league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Umesh Yadav was bowling the final over when the fifth delivery was adjudged to be a front-foot no ball by Nigel Llong. However, the replays showed his foot was inches behind the crease. Rohit adjudged LBW (MI vs KKR group game): Another umpiring mistake came during a match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians when Rohit Sharma was adjudged LBW while his side was chasing a massive 233. The incident happened in the fourth over of the second innings when Rohit was given out to an attempted hoick that he missed off Harry Gurney. Replays showed that the ball was just clipping leg stump as the Mumbai Indians skipper reviewed the decision. The decision could have gone either way but since the umpire’s original decision was that of ‘out’, the third umpire stayed with the on-field umpire’s call. Rohit was displeased with the decision and after having a couple of words with the umpire, he broke the stumps with his bat. Following the incident, the MI skipper was also fined 15 per cent of his match fee. Dhoni losses calm over ‘no-ball’ u-turn (CSK vs RR group game): CSK skipper MS Dhoni, who is known as ‘Captain Cool’, too suffered a meltdown and stormed from his dugout to confront the umpires after a no-ball call for a high full toss was reversed against Rajasthan Royals in an IPL 2019 game. The incident happened when CSK needed 18 runs from the final over. The fourth delivery of the over bowled by Ben Stokes to Mitchell Santner was first called a no-ball by umpire Ulhas Gandhe but the decision was changed after he consulted with square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford. At this point Dhoni – who was in the dugout – stormed into the field and confronted both the umpires, asking them of the reason for reversing the decision. Quite a few Rajasthan players also got involved in what seemed to be a heated discussion. Ultimately, the delivery was deemed legal but replays suggested it was a waist high no-ball. Dhoni was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for his behaviour, which many former cricketers termed as a “light punishment” for the wicketkeeper-batsman.last_img read more

Tebas drops massive La Liga hint of Neymar and Mbappé

first_imgDuring an event organized by Europa Press, La Liga president Javier Tebas stated that he believes “something” will happen with Neymar and Mbappé.The summer transfer market seems like it will be even more interesting than the ones prior due to the high demand for stars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, at least that’s what La Liga’s president Javier Tebas seemed to hint this Wednesday.During an event organized by Europa Press, the chairman spoke about several topics regarding the competition he controls and spoke about how much the exit of people like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho, or Pep Guardiola have affected the tournament in a very negative way. It’s clear that these football stars leaving Spain dropped La Liga’s level and has elevated the countries where they have decided to continue their careers, Guardiola made a massive impact in the Bundesliga when he coached Bayern Munich for three seasons and Jose Mourinho kept winning trophies in the Premier League during the time he managed both Chelsea and Manchester United. The situation with Cristiano Ronaldo is no different as he has managed to revive Serie A practically on his own after coming to Juventus, suddenly many top players want to play in Italy just because they want to play either with or against the Portuguese forward.➡ Tebas: “Ojalá que Mbappé y Neymar jueguen en #LaLiga”➡ El presidente de LaLiga cree que “puede que haya algún club que se está guardando dinero” y que pueda “haber algo importante en verano”#EPDesayunoTebas https://t.co/vnRHxjSsA0— EP Deportes (@EPdeportes) January 30, 2019Tebas is aware that the Spanish La Liga needs to make some instrumental decisions that will bring the competition back to the very top and they can keep winning the biggest trophies on club level football. While FC Barcelona seems like they will keep Lionel Messi in the squad until the day he retires, clubs like Real Madrid or Atletico are still searching for more interesting players who can help them compete against the dominant Catalan club.Los Blancos are a very specific case, they are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and they are expected to make a massive investment in one of the two most coveted players in European football.Paris Saint-Germain currently has Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, the Brazilian seems like a more plausible option for the French giants to release from the club but the French wonder kid is still one of the most impossible targets in the market today. However, president Javier Tebas just hinted that he may have some inside information about the possible negotiations for both players and he let something slip this Wednesday during the public event organized by Europa Press this week.Javier Tebas, boss of LaLiga: “There are many indications that one of the clubs from LaLiga saves money for the big move. With this in…Apart from dismissing the complaints from Real Madrid about VAR used in the Spanish La Liga, Javier Tebas offered several headlines as usual about several topics that are very interesting to the world of football.“I wish that both Neymar and Kylian Mbappé can come to La Liga next season,” said Tebas on Europa Press during the event.“I have a feeling that something important is going to happen during the summer. Both of these players are people who can only come to great clubs and there is a possibility that one of them is saving money in order to bring one of those major stars to Spanish football.”“I obviously would’ve loved Cristiano Ronaldo to continue playing for La Liga, or that Mourinho would sign a new contract with a Spanish club.”“Their exits haven’t really affected us, I am not 100% sure that people from Serie A are happy with his arrival.”“As far as the financial fair play allegations against PSG goes, we have been leading the charge on this for the last three years in European football.”“We did place a formal accusation against Paris Saint-Germain in front of UEFA. We won’t stop being on top of this issue until we get a proper resolution,” he added.📈 Biggest home win in #Ligue1 🏡🏅 Biggest win in #Ligue1, equaling the scoreline from a March 2016 victory 🆚 Troyes9⃣-0⃣ #PSGEAG🔴🔵 #AllezParis pic.twitter.com/y9rduSsmYr— Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_English) January 19, 2019Who would you like to come to La Liga, Neymar or Kylian Mbappé? Swan Lake Fire Orders Additional Crews For Boots On The Ground

first_imgManagement of the Swan Lake Fire transitioned to a Type 2 Alaska incident management team on Monday. This move to a Type 2 team increases the capacity of each division of staffing.  More personnel assigned to this fire provides for a comprehensive strategic plan going forward and adds capacity in anticipation of the shift in weather back to drier days, according to a release from the Division of Forestry. Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The fire growth to the Swan Lake Fire, burning in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, was moderated by cloud cover on Monday. This allowed for expansion in the areas where the black spruce stands remain receptive. Kale Casey with the State Division of Forestry: “There was fire growth yesterday, and it was moderate. It mainly expanded where black spruce stands, and that’s mainly been the theme of this fire.”  Motorists are still urged to yield to fire apparatus entering the Sterling Highway and to adhere to traffic signage staged near miles 82 and 92, as well as near Sterling Elementary where the incident command center has been established. Casey: “Right now we can add more helicopters and more crews. We have an additional five more crews on order. That will really help us to work the fire edge more intensely away from the City of Sterling with more boots on the ground.” center_img As of Tuesday morning the fire remains around 13,000 acres, and roughly 5.5 miles from the City of Sterling. Casey: “The community is going to see more fire traffic in the neighborhood. Eventually they will see engines out on patrol, at some point, and that’s part of our expanded effort so the community knows that we are here for them.” For more details contact the Division of Forestry Public Information office at 907-260-4262, visit kpboem.com orinciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6387/last_img read more
