LG will also be the first to ship a smartphone using the platform (its anticipated V20), and Google is believed to be planning new Nexus devices. But when it comes to existing owners of devices, upgrades are something of a mixed bag. While some vendors bring new versions of Android to their smartphones swiftly (Motorola, for example), others such as Samsung and Huawei have a mixed track record at best.According to figures from Google, just 15.2 per cent of devices using its Play services in the week to 1 August 2016 were running the latest version of Android (Android 6.0 Marshmallow), meaning it was less popular than the earlier Jelly Bean (which dates from 2012), KitKat and Lollipop variants.Indeed, much of the penetration of a new Android platform is dependent on new device sales rather than updates to smartphones already in the hands of customers, which explains the lag between new versions reaching the market, take up, and the slow erosion of share for earlier platforms.Reports earlier this year suggested that Google was looking at ways to encourage vendors to support earlier upgrades, including making public a listing of the times taken. In addition to making new features available to users, there are also security benefits to upgrading. The search giant said it took “a different approach” to building the platform, including giving early access to developers.Features available to users include personalisation options such as customisable quick settings, improved multitasking, and improved battery management features. Also added is support for Vulkan, an advanced 3D rendering API, and Daydream, Google’s platform for mobile virtual reality.Android’s security capabilities have also been beefed-up.In addition, Google is publishing the Android 7.0 source code to the Android Open Source Project. For his part, while working on the earlier versions of the song, Topherr says he knew that Shelly was the one person to compliment it with “his personality, energy, talent and most importantly exceptional writing skills.” Share Share Tweetlast_img read more

In a report on ESPNCricinfo, the organisers stated that it would be held at a time when it was deemed favourable.”We are naturally all sad at today’s announcement of having to temporarily postpone the 2020 EPL, but we simply have to put the health and wellbeing of all Nepalis and our overseas players before everything else. We would like to thank the government of Nepal for their support and counsel through this challenging period, and we support entirely the professional advice throughout. I would like to assure that as soon as we are able to go ahead with the 2020 season, we will be working to ensure that it will be a spectacular event the likes of which Nepal has never seen before,” Everest T20 League’s managing director Aamir Akhtar said to ESPNCricinfo.Nepal has only one confirmed case of coronavirus so far. The country’s health ministry has, however, asked for a suspension of gatherings to minimise the risk of a spread. The coronavirus outbreak has resulted in massive havoc across sports. Scores of countries and regions have imposed travel restrictions and more than 20 — including Olympic host Japan — have ordered two weeks’ quarantine on arrivals from South Korea. Around 40 others have barred foreigners who have recently been in the country.Unless exemptions are granted, the measures make it impossible for South Koreans to take part in international competitions in those countries — costing them ranking points and sometimes putting Olympic qualification in doubt. Caribbean surpasses 30 million mark a major victory in spite of hurricanes

first_imgCaribbean surpasses 30 million mark, a major victory in spite of hurricanes BARBADOS — Despite the catastrophic hurricanes that pummelled several islands last September, the Caribbean has reached a new benchmark, surpassing 30 million tourist visits for the first time ever.Speaking at the annual Caribbean Tourism Performance Review news conference this morning, Ryan Skeete, acting director of research at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) said that stay-over arrivals were on track for a strong performance during the first-half of 2017, growing by an estimated 4.8%. But growth was curtailed in the second half of the year by the storms, which resulted in a 1.7% drop between July and December.Despite the slight drop, the region enjoyed an overall increase of 1.7% in 2017 to reach 30.1 million visits, marking the 8th consecutive year of growth (albeit slower than the average global growth rate of 6.7%).Skeet explained that strong economic performance in the main markets helped spur the region’s performance, with some destinations recording strong double-digit growth (ie. Saint Lucia at +11%, and Belize at +10.8%). The U.S. continued to be the primary market, growing by about 0.5% to reach an estimated 14.9 million visits to the region. Canada, meanwhile, rebounded strongly with a 4.3% increase in arrivals, compared to a decline of 3.1% in 2016. The country’s strong economic performance and increased seat capacity to the region helped support this recovery.More news:  Onex paying big to get WestJet and that will send airfares soaring, says CWTThe increase in arrivals was not reflected in hotel occupancy, which fell by 1.2%, according to STR. However, both average daily rate and revenue per available room recorded increases, though slightly.“Notably, the hotel performance indicators excluded most of the hurricane-impacted destinations at this time, due to the disruption in operations caused by the hurricanes,” said Skeete. The cruise sector also set a new high of 27 million passengers, 2.4% higher than 2016, despite the hurricanes.“The cruise passenger performance mirrors the performance of tourist arrivals, as it grew strongly 4.6% – in the first half of 2017, but contracted marginally – by 0.4% – in the second half of the year. Indeed, cruise passenger arrivals fell dramatically in September by some 2%. However, growth resumed in October, which saw a 2% increase,” added Skeete. The CTO said the economic conditions are expected to be favourable for further growth in 2018, therefore it predicts growth of 2-3% in both stay-over and cruise arrivals.
