Exclusive – Parish hopes to make Palace appointment next week, but laughs off Pulis talk

first_imgCrystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has laughed off reports Tony Pulis could make a sensational return as manager.Pulis made a shock exit from Selhurst Park just two days before the start of the Premier League season but there have been whispers he could be heading back, with bookmakers receiving a flurry of bets on the 56-year-old taking on the job again. That is news to Parish, however, who spoke to talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams ahead of Palace’s clash with West Ham.Asked about the Pulis rumours, he said: “I saw that, 6/1 second favourite, wasn’t he? I think that’s probably unlikely. I would put the odds probably slightly bigger than that!”Parish is under pressure to make an appointment.Malky Mackay had been tipped to take the job, but was ruled out of the running amid damaging allegations surrounding his departure from his previous club, Cardiff.Tim Sherwood had also been seen as a leading contender but has withdrawn his candidacy.Parish admits finding a replacement for Pulis is no easy task, but insists he is working overtime to get the right man in and hopes to make an appointment early next week.“I’ve seen very few people. I’ve probably seen two people but spoken to other people about people and being doing background and due diligence,” he said.“We have got a profile of a manager that we think we need to carry the club forward based on what I’ve experienced over the last four years. Finding the right person isn’t easy.“A lot of managers are in jobs and they are not going to leave their clubs at this stage of the season, so it is a difficult situation. We have got to get the right answer and it’s an ongoing process.“I hope to try and have somebody in early part of next week because we have got the transfer window. We buy the players the manager wants at this football club.“The manager has the decision on who comes to the football club and we’ve got a week of the transfer window left, so it’s really important [we get someone in].”last_img read more
