Argon 18 rolls out new line of triathlon bikes

first_img Related High-end bike manufacturer Argon 18 has revealed its new line-up of triathlon bikes, including four new frames: the E-119 Tri and the E-117 Tri, as well as their enriched counterparts the E-119 Tri+ and the E-117 Tri+.These bikes are billed as the culmination of Argon 18’s passion, dedication and know-how. Thanks to input from IRONMAN triathlon champions, the Canadian manufacturer notes that it has ‘once again pushed the boundaries of performance, aerodynamics and technology to create these powerful winning machines.’“We created this new line of triathlon bikes with the entire cycling equation in mind: the cyclist and his or her bike during the race,” explained Martin Faubert, Argon 18’s Director of R&D. “These bikes have been first and foremost designed to renew and enrich the racer’s experience by supplying him with simple and clever solutions for hydration and nutrition, while transcending expectations in terms of performance, comfort, and aerodynamics.”E-119 Tri – ‘for the serious, performance-driven and competitive triathlete’With ‘a significant improvement in aerodynamics’, the E-119 Tri is the successor to the company’s flagship E-118 Next, a bike that has made its mark on the international IRONMAN circuit. Argon 18’s newest powerhouse is positioned as a ‘blend of exceptional aerodynamics, light weight and flawless integration, with proprietary brakes concealed on both fork and seat stays to minimize frontal area while improving ease of access for maintenance.’Wind tunnel tests have reportedly demonstrated the aerodynamic advantage of the E-119 Tri compared to many competitors’ models that have been historically cited as references.E-117 Tri – ‘a tri bike for the devoted, self-empowered triathlete’This bike is designed to meet the needs of all triathletes – young or old, experienced or novice. With aerodynamics and triathlon-specific geometry, Argon 18 notes that ‘the E-117 Tri will help you rise to your every challenge and overcome any and every obstacle in your path.’The Tri+ concept from Argon 18 is a holistic approach that provides a complete racing solution for the most demanding of athletes. Tri+ bikes are equipped with integrated storage solutions for hydration, nutrition and survivability. What’s more, these accessories are aerodynamic and customizable to meet every racer’s unique needs and preferences.E-119 Tri+ – ‘for triathletes whose will to win knows no bounds’Billed as ‘the ultimate triathlon bike’, the E-119 Tri+ aims to yield the absolute maximum aerodynamic advantage, like its E-119 Tri counterpart, while boasting an even lighter carbon lay-up. The shape of the frame was fine-tuned; and the development of the E-119 Tri+ frame’s form was driven by complex computational fluid dynamics (CFD).Argon 18 added that the CFD results were validated by wind tunnel tests and ‘true-wind conditions’ (yaw angles from 5° to 20°). Both cockpit and triathlon-specific geometry aim to allow perfect aero positioning, while the proprietary and concealed brakes, identical to those of the E-119 Tri, are synonymous with state-of-the-art integration.E-117 Tri+ – ‘the definitive triathlon beast for your inner warrior’Featuring a symbiosis of aerodynamics, handling, light weight, stiffness and comfort, the brand-new E-117 Tri+ was designed to ‘help you give the best of yourself’. This machine belongs to the next generation of Argon 18 bikes. All tried-and-tested features and characteristics have been reworked and refined. Furthermore, its aerodynamics, taken from the E-117 Tri, and its comprehensive integration, identical to that of the E-119 Tri+, aim to ensure that the rider is in full control when on the bike course.Gervais Rioux, Argon 18’s founder, emphasized that the development of a full line of triathlon products was the obvious next step. “Winning a prestigious Eurobike Award for the innovative E-114 proclaimed loud and clear to the triathlon world our firm commitment to the sport.”He continued, “With the simultaneous launch of these four new models we are hoping to reaffirm and reinforce our status as a world leader in bicycle manufacturing for both amateur and professional athletes. In this sport, every second counts and nothing can be left to chance.”Argon 18 has been an innovator in triathlon racing for over a decade. Driven by a commitment to continually push the envelope, the company introduced the ONEness concept in 2008. This concept, which fully and symbiotically integrates the fork, stem and handle bars, is positioned as a truly versatile solution to optimizing aerodynamics.Argon 18 adds that the ONEness revolution has had a huge impact on the industry and its main players. The company goes on to cite that ‘over 30% of all triathlon bikes used in the Kona IRONMAN World Championship have integrated Argon 18’s innovative concept.’www.argon18bike.comlast_img read more

Nigerian president vows crackdown on abusive Islamic schools after second raid

REUTERS/Stringer NO RESALES. NO ARCHIVESNigeria’s president on Tuesday ordered a crackdown on abuse at Islamic schools, after a second police raid in less than a month revealed men and boys subjected to beatings, abuse and squalid conditions.Nearly 300 had been held captive at a school in the Daura area of Katsina, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, where police said they discovered “inhuman and degrading treatment” following a raid on Monday to free the remaining students.Late last month, police freed hundreds from similarly degrading conditions in neighbouring Kaduna state.“Mr. President has directed the police to disband all such centers and all the inmates be handed over to their parents,” said a presidential spokesman.“The government cannot allow centers where people, male and female, are maltreated in the name of religion,” he said.Prior to this week’s raid, hundreds of captives had escaped the center, police said on Tuesday. The 67 inmates who were freed by Katsina police were shackled, and many were taken to hospital for treatment, police superintendent Isah Gambo told Reuters.“I tell you they were in very bad condition when we met them,” Gambo said.A freed captive told Reuters on Monday that the instructors beat, raped and even killed some of the men and boys held at the facility, who ranged from 7 to 40 years of age. It was not immediately possible to verify his account. While the institution told parents it was an Islamic teaching centre that would help straighten out wayward family members, the instructors instead brutally abused them and took away any food or money sent by relatives.“I deeply regret taking my child to the rehabilitation centre because I was ignorant of what was actually going on here,” Alhaji Lawal Garka, a parent of one of the captives, told Reuters on Tuesday.Police said they had arrested the owner of the facility and two teachers, and were tracking other suspects.Local resident Umar Galadima said that escaped captives were “running for their lives,” with some throwing stones or brandishing weapons to fend off workers who tried to take them back to the facility. The more than 200 captives who escaped were still missing, Gambo said. Police were working to reunite the others with family members.“The inmates are actually from different parts of the country – Kano, Taraba, Adamawa and Plateau States,” he said. “Some of them are not even Nigerians. They come from Niger, Chad and even Burkina Faso and other countries.”Islamic schools, called Almajiris, are common in the mostly Muslim north of Nigeria. Muslim Rights Concern, a local organisation, estimates about 10 million children attend them.Buhari said the government planned to ban the schools eventually, but he has not yet commented on the Katsina school.Related Macky Sall begins second term as Senegal’s presidentcenter_img Ghana’s President John Mahama endorsed for second termlast_img read more

Bank on Subbie in Race Three

first_imgMAKHI, who was forced off the track for close to 19 months because of lameness, will be treated with Lasix for his seventh start tomorrow and is the one to be on in the opening event over 1400 metres. The four-year-old returned in a 1500-metre race last November 24 and showed up briefly before weakening behind winner SILVA CRASS, GENERAL MUBARAAK and third-place MOVIESTAR. Before his long absence, MAKHI had displayed lots of promise while matching strides with horses such as BRUCE WAYNE who are now running in overnight allowance company. On April 8, 2017, he was four lengths behind Cruise Lava in a 2000-metre race, clocking 2:12.1 for the distance. Before that, on March 18 of the same year, he was fourth by nine lengths to BRUCE WAYNE, SUBBIE, and DEAL MARKER. All three are now competing against far superior horses to the ones MAKHI will face tomorrow. On his best form MAKHI should therefore blow away tomorrow’s field and connections will be hoping that the raceday medication will help him run his best race in almost two years. GENERAL MUBARAAK is the obvious favourite, on current form, in this opening event of the Sunrise-Six but he cannot be trusted, even at 53kg. He has proved to be very expensive to follow and is always finding one going better in the final stages of his races. LAMBANA stayed on well in a 1500-metre race on January 5 and appears ready to shed the maiden tag in the second race. The four-year-old gelding finished second to POLLY FLYER after being close to the pace for much of the race. He has gone up 3kg in the weights but is very fit and will be travelling 200 metres more. The Winston Morris-trained SUBBIE is a banker in Race Three, a 1400-metre race for $450,000 claimers. The five-year-old has contested the distance three times in his past four starts clocking under 1:28.0 each time. He is actually down a level for tomorrow’s race after placing third by seven lengths to WINTER IS COMING in a $550,000 claiming race on October 31 last year. Veteran jockey Dane Nelson has the ride. Bottom of the barrel horses will face the starter in the fourth, a 400m race for $120,000 claimers. Thirteen will run and as is customary in theses race races a lot of entries have physical problems and are very short runners. It’s best to stick with horses who have done well over the distance in the past and BEAST has all the credentials. The nine-year-old was burdened with 57.5kg against $180,000 claimers over 1000-metre straight last December 12 and was not disgraced in placing fourth by four lengths to SONG ON TRACK. He has dropped down to 50kg and will be facing lesser rivals and should not be beaten. The last time BEAST was this light in this claiming group, and over this distance, he won going away by three lengths. MY MOM JUSS is the choice for Race Five while CAT’S RIGGER is the selection in the sixth. 1. MAKHI 2. LAMBANA 3. SUBBIE 4. BEAST 5. MY MOM JUSS 6.
